Golf Course Guide

Hombre Golf Club

120 Coyote Pass

Panama City Beach, FL 32407

1-850-234-3673

Hombre Golf Club features water on 15 of the 18 original holes and has added 9 holes with less water but wetland areas that players cross on 3 tee shots. Designed by Wes Buruham, it is one of Florida's Premier Championship Golf Resorts. Since 1998, Martin Green Golf Academy has been housed at the Hombre Golf Club. Martin's large, manicured greens, impeccable service, and wide fairways provide a very forgiving rough and guarantee a memorable round of golf. With the help of the Martin Green Golf Academy, golfers have the opportunity to develop their game with golf greats Dave Eichelberger, 1999 Senior U.S. Open Champion and Hubert Green, Senior PGA Tour Professional.

Hombre Golf Club is one of a few courses designated to host the PGA Tour Qualifying School. It is one of only a few courses in the country to have this designation. Many of the top players you see today on the PGA Tour have played at Hombre.

The Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus, was on hand during the 1998 Q-School where his son, Gary, finished 5th at the Hombre Golf Club. Jack told the local NBC affiliate "You definitely have to play golf when you get here. The fairways are the best I have seen this year." Hombre Golf Club is a semi-private, par 72 course, with driving range, golf shop and lunch counter. Walking permitted at times - call for information. Tee times recommended.

Bunkers of silky white sand protect Holiday’s broad, lake-lined fairways and elevated greens. The course has been described in national golf publications as one of Florida's most enjoyable, yet challenging tracks. Holiday also features Bay County’s only "lighted" nine hole Par 3 Course. It was designed with three sets of tees so that the entire family could enjoy the game. Holiday also has a lighted range and practice facility. Tee times are recommended. Soft Spikes are necessary.

St. Andrews State Recreation Park is located at the east end of Thomas Drive. It encompasses 1,260 acres of beaches, dunes, pinewoods and marshes. Visitors swim in warm Gulf waters or in the shallow, protected area behind the jetty. This area is great for small children. The massive rock jetties make one of the best fishing, snorkeling and diving spots on the Gulf coast, and a boat ramp provides access to the Gulf.

The park opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at sunset year around.

St. Andrews State Park's Shell Island Catch the Shell Island Shuttle to Shell Island, one of the most densely populated bottle-nosed dolphins habitats. This pristine island situated between the Gulf of Mexico and St. Andrews Bay provides an array of activities including: abundant wildlife, dolphin encounters, pontoon boat rentals, snorkeling, kayak rentals and fishing boat rentals. Coolers are welcome.

Facilities or concessions are not available on Shell Island, but are available at St. Andrew's State Park. The Shuttle departs every 1/2 hour, 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The park is bordered by Lake Powell, Phillips Inlet, and the Gulf of Mexico. The park provides an ideal backdrop for hiking, picnicking, fishing, boating and swimming. The park also provides an essential respite for migratory Central American birds.

Sea Turtles at St. Andrew's State Park

Hatchling, nest and tracks in the park

Sea Turtles are an endangered part of the marine life at St. Andrews State Park. The Friends and Staff are very concerned about their welfare. Should you see any turtles on the beach, please do not bother them, but find a park staff member to come rescue them. Turtles will lay eggs in nests they make on our beaches. It is vital that we do not disturb the nests. Please help us protect the sea turtles by keeping away from any nests you might see marked.

The Turtle Watch Program works during the nesting season to find, mark and monitor the nests, so that we can be sure the hatchlings make it to the water safely. Staff members, along with a few expertly trained volunteers, are checking Shell Island and the mainland beach each day for any signs of sea turtle tracks on the beaches.

During the 2007 nesting season, 8 nests on Shell Island and 2 nests on the mainland of the park between the gulf pier and the jetties were monitored. All the nests were loggerheads**. Only 9 of the 10 nests were evaluated because of total nest depredation by a canine at one nest. Five other nests were affected by predators but were not a total loss and staff got a pretty accurate account of the total number of eggs and hatchlings that emerged. The count was: 1050 eggs, 800 hatchlings that emerged, 27 live hatchlings found in nests and later released, 17 dead hatchlings in nests, 2 live piped*, 15 dead piped*, and of the un-hatched eggs there were 16 undamaged and 173 damaged.

The first documented nest of the 2007 season was found on June 1, 2007 and the last was found on August 14, 2007. (Year 2007 nesting season information provided by Joseph Mocilan, Park Service Specialist, St. Andrews State Park).

* "Piped" refers to eggs where the turtle hatchling has broken through its eggshell, but has not fully emerged from the shell.** Status: The loggerhead sea turtle (caretta caretta) is listed as threatened throughout its range (Federal Register, July 28, 1978).

This has led to many awards and accolades over the years including a Top 5 “Best Beach” by Southern Living Magazine and a Top 10 Beach by the Travel Channel. And word has gotten around too. Today, the 27 miles of pristine sand and water are the destination for romantic getaways, fishing and diving enthusiasts, meeting planners and of course, families seeking fun-filled vacations. The Gulf hosts marine life that can be viewed both up-close and personal, or even from a scenic cruise. The shores offer a vast playground for surf-side volleyball or constructing the most intricate sand castle. Inland, freshly prepared local seafood and great shopping awaits. And when the sun sets on yet another perfect day, the strip lights up with nightlife from the famed Super Clubs, theaters, concerts and attractions.
